“The Tattooist of Auschwitz”

The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris is based on true events. After being flown to Poland, the main character ends up in the Auschwitz concentration camp. The protagonist, like most inmates, is made to work building barracks, and soon after, from the hard work and lack of food, he becomes very ill. The young man discovers, upon recovering from a severe case of scarlet fever, that a French tattoo artist by the name of Pepan prevented him from dying. The protagonist is offered a position as his assistant by the tattoo artist. His primary responsibility now is to permanently ink the numbers of newly arrived inmates on their arms.
