“A Little Life”

American author Hanya Yanagihara's book "A Little Life" has been compared to a horror story, an instructional novel written in the vein of dense novels from the 19th century, an old Greek tragedy, and a university chronicle. All these descriptions fit the book, yet in this instance, the book becomes different for every reader. It's experienced in real time rather than just read about. Some see it as a tale of friendship, which can occasionally be more resilient and enduring than love. Others fear recalling this book, which lurks in the bookshelf like a monster under the bed. For others, however, "A Little Life" transforms into a story about life—about any life—that ought to be told to at least one person in seriousness.
